Looking for a serious multi-media tablet? The Sony Tablet S is PlayStation DNA enabled and packed full of options to integrate into your home entertainment system.

Sony Tablet SThe Sony Tablet S with it’s magazine-inspired layout and unique sloping design has hit the store shelves at Best Buy. The tablet was previously available only through the Sony store and Home Shopping Network but is now available through select retailers like Best Buy, JR and Amazon.

The 16 GB Sony Tablet S runs Android Honeycomb (3.2) and of course, just as with their PC’s and notebooks, Sony has added their own customizations to the user interface. Android purists might not be thrilled with Sony’s enhancements but for the average consumer (or gamer), the enhancements won’t matter much.

What will matter is that the Sony Tablet S natively plays PlayStation 1 and PlayStation Portable games through an emulator that is pre-installed on the tablet. Pinball Heros and Crash Bandicoot are included with the device and future titles will be available through Sony at additional cost.

Beside playing PlayStation games, the Tablet S also handles eBooks, music and new release movies from Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited. You can also control devices in your living room with the built in universal IR remote control.

Here’s what you’ll find in the Sony Tablet S :

  • Nvidia Tegra 2 processor
  • 16 GB of Memory
  • 9.4 inch touchscreen display at 1280 x 800
  • Android Honeycomb (3.2) OS
  • PlayStation DNA Certified
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Infrared, DNLA
  • SD Card Slot & Micro A/B USB Port
  • Front 0.3MP Camera & Back 5.0MP Camera
  • Free 6-month basic membership to Music Unlimited
  • Free movie download from Video Unlimited
  • Free eBook download from Reader Store

Priced at $499.99, the Sony Tablet S is more expensive than competing Honeycomb tablets from Acer, Motorola and Samsung but then again, Sony products always come with a price tag.

I have my eye on the Sony tablet for my x-mas gift to myself. I have always been a huge fan of my Sony Viao notebook and I’m sure the Tablet-S will be amazing.
